It is used for several purposes, most often to mark the end of a declarative sentence (as opposed to a question or exclamation) this sentence-terminal use, alone, defines the strictest sense of full stop. Sadly, I must conclude that they did not implement the same amount of effort into the design of it's mechanism, where it's shortcomings lie.The full stop ( Commonwealth English), period ( North American English) or full point. In conclusion, design-wise, I very much like the Super-G and I appreciate the twist they gave to it's design. Mounting the typewriter back into it's body was another ordeal with the screws being located in the most impossible places. Cursing under my breath, I finally managed to get the escapement as well as the power-space working in the fashion that it should. It took quite a bit of tweaking and adjusting with the pliers to get the typewriter working just right.
After inspection, I discovered the cheap materials used to create the carriage mechanism had warped over time, probably from forceful operation of the Power-Spacer which was equally faulty. The carriage slid freely, with the occasional catch, but far from a correct demeanor. Commencing repair, the first issue to tackle was the dysfunctional escapement that would not engage at all. It's "Space-Age" design makes me believe that Smith-Corona designed in response to Olivetti's Valentine model that came out around roughly the same time. Upon closer inspection, and with my lack on the Super-G as it was my first time encountering one, I discovered it is fairly identical to the Corsair, which would've been it's predecessor. The typewriter is aesthetically in very nice condition, but mechanically it required work when it came to me. This Smith-Corona Super-G (Ghia) passed through my hands on a refurbishing job that I was given.
